한미 공동조사단은 7월 8일 회의를 개최하고 아래와 같이 합의하였다.
● Investigation results will be announced jointly. These will include: ①ROK-US joint survey and sampling plans ② ROK-US joint analysis ③ ROK-US coordination & ④ announcements of test results.
조사결과는 공동으로 발표하며, ①한미 공동 조사 및 시료채취 계획 ②한미 공동 분석 ③한미 협의 ④결과발표 등을 포함한다.
● According to the results of the geophysical survey on Helipad Area 1, the joint investigation team agreed to collect core soil samples on a total of 40 locations in the area identified as the alleged burial site of Agent Orange. The selected locations include anomalous areas from the geophysical surveys, the two non-penetrable areas (fire training pit & wash rack) and other areas that the team determined would complete requirements for health risk assessments. Coring is scheduled to start on the afternoon of July 8th. Refer to attachment 1 for details on the technical information and attachment 2 for the coring locations.
하우스씨가 고엽제 매몰 의혹을 제기한 헬기장 1 지역에 대한 지구물리탐사 결과, 공동조사단은 총 40개 지점에서 토양시료를 채취하여 조사하기로 합의하였다. 이 40개 시추지점은 지구물리탐사결과 발견된 이상 징후 지역, 2개의 비투과지역(Fire training pit과 Wash rack), 기타 건강위해성 평가를 위해 조사가 필요한 지역 등을 포함하여 선정되었다. 이 지역에 대한 시추는 7월 8일 오후부터 개시할 예정이다. 기술적 세부내용은 첨부자료 1, 시추 위치는 첨부자료 2를 참조한다.

● Off-post soil testing and groundwater testing for the helipad area and Area D are currently underway. The results are scheduled to be released by late July. The decision to proceed with additional testing will be determined after reviewing the results.
외부의 토양조사와 헬기장 지역 및 D구역에 대한 지하수 수질조사가 현재 진행 중이다. 조사결과는 7월 말에 발표될 예정이다. 조사결과 검토 후 추가조사 여부를 결정한다.
● Groundwater sampling from monitoring wells and geophysical surveys on Area 41 are scheduled to begin on July 25.
41구역에 대한 지하수 관측정 시료채취와 지구물리탐사는 7월 25일에 시작할 예정이다.
● Soil coring of the remaining areas except for the Helipad Area 1 will be conducted after reviewing the results of the geophysical survey on areas that show anomalies, as well as areas that complete requirements for health risk assessments. Plans for soil coring will be announced separately.
헬기장 1 지역을 제외한 나머지 지역에 대한 토양시추조사는 지구물리탐사 결과이상 징후 지역과 인체 위해성 평가를 위해 조사가 필요한 지역 등에 대하여 실시한다. 토양시료 채취계획은 별도로 발표한다.
● The ROK-US Joint Investigation Team will complete the investigation as soon as possible and release the results in a prompt, accurate and transparent manner.
한미 공동조사단은 최대한 조속히 조사를 완료하고 그 결과를 신속·정확하고 투명하게 공개한다.

스티브 하우스씨가 의혹을 제기한 헬기장 왼쪽지역에 대해 6월 2일부터 7월 6일까지 GPR, ER, MS 방법에 의해 고엽제드럼통을 찾기 위한 지구물리탐사를 실시하였다.
Geophysical surveys (GPR, ER and MS) were conducted from June 2 to July 6 for the helipad area 1 to find out whether the drums of Agent Orange were buried as Mr. House alleges.
현장에서 취득된 자료를 해석한 결과를 한측에서 검증하여 양측이 합의한 이상징후지역을 찾아 동 지역을 포함한 건강위해성 평가의 일환으로 토양오염도 조사를 위한 시추지점을 결정하였다.
The ROK experts have reviewed the data obtained from the site, and both sides agreed on the locations of soil coring and sampling to test the level of soil contamination as a part of health risk assessment.
자력탐사 결과는 슬라이드 1과 같다.
지하에 금속성물체가 있는 지역은 붉은색과 파란색이 혼합되어 복합적으로 나타나고 있다. 가운데 원형은 콘크리트로 덥힌 소방훈련지역이고, 우측의 직사각형 모양은 자동차 바퀴 세척지역(Wash Rack)으로서 시멘트 콘크리트 내의 Wire mesh 로 인하여 자력이상대로 나타나고 있다. 가운데 직선으로 나타나는 이상대는 급수관로이고 북쪽의 이상대는 금속성울타리 때문이다. 그 외의 이상대 지역은 금속성 매설물에 의한 것으로 해석할 수 있다.
Slide 1 shows an example of magnetic survey result.
The magnetic anomalies in red and blue may indicate metal objects buried underground. The circle at the center is fire training pit, covered with clay bricks. The square at the right is a wash rack, and anomalous zone of the wash rack comes from the wire mesh inside the concrete pad. The anomaly shown as a straight line at the center is a water supply line, and the anomalous zone at the north is due to a metal fence. Other anomalous zones might be originated from metal objects buried underground.
전기비저항 해석 결과의 한 예는 슬라이드 2와 같다
금속성물체가 묻혀있는 부분은 주위에 비해 상대적으로 낮은 전기비저항이 나타난다. 그래서 낮은 전기비저항 이상대로 나타나는 부분을 금속성 물체가 묻혀있을 가능성이 높은 지역으로 해석하였다.
Slide 2 shows an example of an Electrical Resistivity result.
Because metals show electrical properties of low resistivity, the anomalous zones of relatively low electrical resistivities could be interpreted as areas where metal objects are buried underground.
지하투과 레이다 탐사 결과의 한 예는 슬라이드 3과 같다.
드럼과 같은 물체가 지하에 분포하고 있을 때 나타날 수 있는 레이다 신호 패턴을 2차원 탐사자료에서 선별하여 이러한 지역을 레이다 이상대로 나타내었다.
Slide 3 shows an example of the GPR result.
Specific patterns of radar signals from the objects buried underground, that could indicate drums, were chosen on the 2 dimensional sections and marked as anomalous zones.
3가지 탐사기법에 의한 이상대를 종합 해석하여 이상대 지역을 토양시추지점으로 선정하였다.
또한 인체위해성평가를 실시하기 위하여 지구물리탐사 결과 이상대지역 외의 지점을 토양시추지점에 추가하여 총 40개 시추지점을 선정하였다.
Anomalous zones detected by three geophysical methods were combined and analyzed to choose the locations of soil coring and sampling.
Beside of the anomalous zones detected by geophysical methods, other coring locations were added in order to fully conduct the health risk assessment. A total of 40 coring spots were selected.
토양 시료 채취는 7월 8일 오후부터 개시하여 8월말에 토양분석결과를 발표할 계획이다.
The coring will begin afternoon of July 8. The soil analysis result will be announced approximately at the end of August.
